EM Biotech GmbH was founded in 2009 by Dr Elmar Maier, our CEO, a seasoned life sciences dealmaker known for successfully closing deals.
Elmar has led numerous large R&D collaborations and licensing agreements, securing hundreds of millions of dollars in upfront payments for clients, along with significant milestone payments and royalties. He has also played a key role in equity fundraising and M&A transactions.
He co-founded GPC Biotech in 1997 and iOmx Therapeutics in 2016, serving as CBO and/or COO for over 15 years. In these roles, he helped raise capital through private rounds, list GPC on European and US markets, and negotiate various licensing, partnership, asset purchase, and M&A deals.
Since 1999, Elmar has served on the boards of several life science companies, including GATC Biotech (acquired by Eurofins in 2017), Panoptes Pharma (acquired by EyeGate Pharma in 2020), and Vetter Pharma. He is currently Chair of the Board at QUANTRO Therapeutics and provides strategic BD&L advice to multiple biotech companies.
Elmar holds a Chemistry degree and earned his PhD from the University of Konstanz, Germany. He has worked as a Scientist at ICRF Laboratories in London and was Department Head at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics in Berlin.
